So we finally went to see SATC the movie last night. Thanks to a little push by T1, otherwise I’d never got off my backside to go. And yes, it was enjoyable. As expected, the plot was “Plot? Huh? What plot?”, and the fashion was “Phwooaaa!” Plus a few brilliant one-liners to keep us interested. Well worth the 10 bucks. (It was tight-ass Tuesday so we saved ourselves 6 bucks each. Yay.)
Anyway so you know how everyone’s been raving about that vintage black studded belt that Carrie wore with virtually every second outfit? The one that’s promised to prompt a crazy flurry of knock-offs? Well personally, I don’t think it’s that great. Plus it wouldn’t suit my tiny torso which is about as long as a baby’s hand. So it’s gonna go right into my “look great on others but stupid on me” file.
Actually, it’s the other over-worn piece of accessory that got my attention — The Long Pearl Necklace. Which appeared just as often as the belt, including a couple of times when our lovely girl went to bed with full make-up on. Just a simple, knotted, single strand of ivory pearls. But it goes with absolutely everything. Trust me, I’ve got one of those and I swear by it. A staple piece that’s never failed to impress me. Except maybe for that one time when a friend went “You know, I’d think you owned more than just one necklace being the bead lady you are”, which prompted me to easy up on my pearl strand’s busy work schedule. Poor baby!
So if you find yourself stuck for what accessory to wear, all stressed out by the heaps of tangled earrings bracelets necklaces brooches belts rings on your dressing table, whack a pearl necklace on, forget about the rest, and off you go.
In the movie, it was mainly worn loosely as a single strand. But I assure you, that thing is as versatile as a pair of dark denim jeans. Get a strand that has a clasp fitted, and you can also:
~ tie a little black ribbon bow onto it for a “Coco Chanel slightly-edgy-but-ultra-feminine” look,
~ tie it into a knot for that effortless”shabby chic” look,
~ double / triple it up as a choker,
~ wind it around your wrist as a chunky bracelet,
~ thread it through your jeans as a girly belt.
The possibilities are endless.
So go on, get yourself one of them gorgeous things — real pearls if you have the $$$, freshwater pearls, Swarovski pearls, even “el cheapo” imitation glass pearls — and you won’t look back.
Or maybe you will, to check out how many heads you’ve turned. 😉
